Deadpool 2 teaser released online and it’s awesome

Breaking something of an established convention among superhero movies, Hugh Jackman’s last Wolverine film doesn’t feature a post-credits scene. Thematically, this makes total sense – particularly with how the movie ends – but I can’t deny that it wasn’t disappointing.

Collider had originally rumoured that there would be a post film stinger, but later updated its story – noting that there would be ‘something cool for the fans’ before the movie started. This was later confirmed to be a teaser trailer for Deadpool 2 which would be shown before screenings of Logan. In keeping with how his movie started out, the Merc with a Mouth himself, Ryan Reynolds, just released the trailer on YouTube. And it’s amazing.

Fittingly, for a film that represents itself as the antidote to comic-book movie fatigue, the clip parodies the early Superman trope of Clark Kent changing into his costume in a telephone box – even going so far as to have John Williams’ famous score playing in the background (bet that wasn’t cheap). There are a number of easter-eggs for the fans and the video contains possibly the funniest Stan Lee cameo so far.

Despite encountering a few set-backs in its production – notably the departure of the first movie’s director, Tim Miller – Deadpool 2 seems to be back on track. Following Miller’s departure, John Wick director David Leitch took up the reins (which is an excellent choice), and the production may be narrowing in on who will play Cable – with The Wrap reporting that Fox are interested in Stranger Things star David Harbour.
